Personalizing Senior Caregiving via Videotaped Biographies

There is currently a movement to promote “culture change” in long-term care facilities for the elderly. One goal of this movement is to make resident care more person-centered rather than institution-centered. Of interest in this research was an exploration of conditions under which a videotaped biography of a senior citizen could be used to create more personalized relationships between residents and certified nurse aides (CNAs), who provide upwards of 90% of residents’ physical, social, emotional and spiritual care [1].
